What’s Been Going On…

Despite the potential arrival of snow this weekend indicating winter has finally arrived, there’s been plenty going on down at Kingsway in recent weeks with eyes very much on the coming season in 2022.

Current & Past Players Evening

We were delighted to host a current and past players reunion recently. There were around 70-80 people in attendance with players from 6 different decades making the evening a fantastic night of craic, banter and storytelling!

“It is very important we are mindful of respecting our past as well as looking forward to planning our future” said Director of Cricket and club Life Member, Paul Furby.

Greats of the club like Bill Blenkiron, Neil Duckworth, and David Jackson, to name a few turned out to reminisce and share memories of their time playing for Bishops. It was indeed a fantastic evening for everyone who attended and certainly an event we intend to hold annually.

Players Meeting

Planning is underway in earnest for the 2022 season. The playing group met recently to discuss moving the club forward in 2022 and how people perceived the best way forward. Success of course was the main item on the agenda, but in what form that was to take proved to be a very interesting avenue of discussion!! Chappy led the meeting in his new role of Director of Coaching, a role which sees him return to play at Kingsway also and new recruit Matthew Cowling was welcomed into the playing group also.

We are delighted to able announce that the club has registered a 3XI team for 2022 with the NYSD and certainly there was lots of positivity in the room about how the club intends to stride into the coming season.

Junior Coaching

Of course, a massive aim for the club to is to field junior sides once more in 2022. Junior coaching sessions commenced almost immediately at the conclusion of last season with around 30 youngsters involved in a 10-week Friday night coaching program at King James Academy under the watchful eye of Steve and his team of coaches from within the club we are so lucky to have available.

Sessions have been an hour long, with youngsters split into two age groups focusing on skill development. The younger players in the earlier group enjoyed soft ball games and drills, whilst the older players in the second group had net practice and ball machine.

There are similar sessions scheduled for after Christmas and details are available online:-
