New Role for Former Bishops Pro

Following the conclusion of the 2021 season, BACC have moved quickly to secure and welcome back, former club pro Steve Chapman, into a newly created role of Director of Coaching.

“We are obviously delighted to welcome Steve back into the club in this new role. Along with current Head Coach Nathan Rimmington, we can now provide an outstanding, professional environment for our players to be coached and improve.” said Director of Cricket Paul Furby.

“Chappy was an excellent professional player for us in years gone by and has spent most of his adult life coaching cricket, mainly in Australia, but since returning to England, did some outstanding work in is previous role at South North CC and we are confident he can have a similar influence at Kingsway.”

Steve is a permanent resident of Australia, where he successfully ran his own coaching business for 15 years, before returning to the UK in 2018 and commenced a Director of Coaching role working with South Northumberland CC before leaving earlier this year. In 2017, he worked in the IPL with Gujarat Lions and two years later worked for Durham CCC as a Batting and Spin Bowling Consultant.

“I am really happy to be returning to work at BACC, to help the club rebuild their infra structure. After a series of extremely positive meetings with Paul Furby, I am enthused by the plans the club has to move forward and improve. I have some good memories of Bishop from my 10 years playing there throughout the 90’s and am really keen to get back involved.” Steve Chapman said.

Work is already underway to rebuild our junior section within the club. As many people are aware, we have recently started our winter junior coaching programs, which have been well subscribed and within the town, positive meetings with local schools have taken place and seeds of working relationships have been sown.

There’s a big winter ahead for the club and no doubt some challenging work... but exciting times indeed!!
