Furb Reviews Season 2021

“It was nice to play a full season after Covid-19 affected the 2020 season.

We finished sixth in the league, fourth would have been

more realistic after losing five games to the weather, notably these

games were against bottom teams and there were a couple of poor performances.

The cup season was a total write off losing all three games we played.

Nathan Rimmington was top run scorer and leading wicket taker, scoring 425 league runs and taking 53 league wickets – the most in the league, in what was an outstanding debut season. He spent hours and hours coaching, never missed a session. What an asset he has been for the club!!

Disappointingly the second team was relegated, not an acceptable position for BACC having a team in the fourth division again - it

was availability and commitment that led us to this position. One week having fourteen players to pick from, then eight the next week.

We welcome Matty Cowling back to play and Steve Chapman into the role of Director of Coaching. Really happy to have them both back! Matty, while away has proved himself to be a top cricketer with premier league champions, while Chappy is back to the club where he became a top player.

I would like to thank all our sponsors, particularly EBAC and our president John Elliott, who sadly can’t be here this evening. A huge thank you to the George’s who just get on and do things around the club, they are special people. To all the coaches at the club who have worked hard to improve players, especially Stu Hill, Jacob Dinger and Paul Stones.

Finally, I would like to mention John Hudspeth. We lost John in April 2020, and this is the first time we have all met since his passing. He was a big part of the cricket club, at first admittedly he didn’t have a great deal of knowledge about the cricket, however in my time at the club, I would say he had one the biggest influences on Bishop Auckland Cricket Club I have known. For the 10 years or so he was involved, he, along with John Elliott and me, worked very closely to get things in a good position. He was involved in most things around the club, a true legend of BACC.

Sadly, missed by everyone!”
