It is with great delight BACC announce the signing of Australian cricketer Ben Rosenboom for the coming 2022 season. Ben is a right arm fast medium swing bowler, currently playing First Grade cricket with Footscray CC in the Victorian Premier Cricket Competition. The connection was made via our Director of Coaching Steve Chapman, who coached Footscray for 5 years from 2013 – 2018 before returning to the UK early 2018.
“Ben is a fantastic young player and genuinely nice guy. He is a seriously hard worker and is always looking to improve his game. Ben will be an outstanding asset for the team.” said Chapman.
Ben 23 has previously travelled into Europe on holiday for a few weeks just prior to the Covid pandemic but has yet to play any cricket in the UK.
“I’m thrilled to be joining Bishop Auckland Cricket Club and teaming up with Chappy again. He’s told me heaps about the club and what’s happening there, and I am really excited to be part of it. I have taken a gap year from Uni to do some travelling around Europe again, but when the opportunity arose to play some cricket in the UK, I jumped at it. I’d still love to play cricket for a living and the chance to spend a summer playing in England, especially working with Nathan Rimmington was too good an opportunity to pass by.” said Rosenboom
Nobody was more delighted about the signing than First XI Captain Richard Hawthorne.
“What a pickup Ben will be for the club. Chappy has told us much about him and having watched him bowl on YouTube, I know he’s going to be a serious player for us. He’s tall, bowls fast and swings the new ball away nicely. What more could we want?” said the skipper.
With the new season a little more than a couple of months away they are indeed exciting times for the club. Ben will be joining up with Bishops in time for the friendly away at Undercliffe on April 9th.
