COWLING RETURNS TO BOLSTER BISHOPS

BACC are delighted to announce the return of favourite son Matthew Cowling for the coming season.  Matt, now 32, was a junior at Kingsway before leaving the club in 2011 to play with Richmondshire, also in the NYSD league. In the middle of his 8 seasons with Richmond, Matt also played 2 seasons with Brandon in 2014 & 2015, Such was the success he enjoyed at Richmond, it wasn’t long before he returned to be part of a team that won 12 trophies in that time including 5 NYSD Premier League Championships and 1 prestigious National Cup.

A very versatile top order batsman, Matt is more than capable of bowling a few overs of off spin if required or can keep wicket if ever needed. He comes to Kingsway at a time of rebuilding for the club and is the first recruit of the close season, though we’re sure not the last.

Speaking to Matthew about his return to Kingsway, he said “I am thrilled to be back where it all started and can't wait to get going again. Hopefully I can contribute to getting the club back where it belongs and pick up some silverware along the way".

Director of Cricket Paul Furby commented “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Matthew and his family back to Bishop Auckland Cricket Club. He is a very popular lad, outstanding cricketer and his experience of playing in such a good side for so long will help the dressing room immensely as we aspire to be better in 2022.”

Welcome back Matthew, we all wish you well!!
