1XI Match Report v Guisborough CC (Home)

BACC 1XI hosted the high flying Guisborough CC at the weekend, with the visitors arriving at Kingsway placed fourth in the NYSD Div 1. On a sometimes bright but extremely windy day, the home side batted first with several first team regulars absent through injury or holiday. Scott Oldfield (51) opened the batting in the absence of the inured Jack Rutherford and along with Steve Chapman (60) added 115 for the first wicket before Oldfield needlessly ran himself out. The ever-reliable Craig George added 54 to his seasons tally, sharing a partnership of 85 with in form Matt Cowling (41) along the way. The visitors worked hard in the field and bowled with accuracy making the contest as tough as any before it this season for the home team. Youngster Matthew Hood bowled 15 overs 4/74, whilst older brother Nick Hood and Adam Burns tried hard for 20 overs between them making batting challenging at times but without any personal success. Bishop eventually declared their innings after 48 overs with their score at 253/7.

With rain hanging around in the air, the visitors run chase commenced. When Ben Roosenboom brilliantly caught and bowled opener Gary Wright (5) in his first over the signs seemed positive for Bishops. However, the next 25 overs of cricket proved to be the most competitive so far this season for the home side. With the new ball not swinging, the experienced Tom Urwin (16) and youngster Sam Barnard (53) set about the chase with confidence and the runs started to flow quickly for the visitors. When Urwin departed LBW to Nathan Rimmington (2/88), overseas amateur Rayan Nadeem arrived at the crease and very quickly another excellent partnership developed. Barnard hit 9 x 4’s in his knock as the youngster imposed himself in the innings, whilst Nadeem drove powerfully either side of the wicket to take the visitors score past 100 at very nearly 5 runs an over. It was very much game on. With the partnership at 99 and the score 128/2 Steve Chapman made the breakthrough bowling Barnard through the gate as the youngster played across the ball. Jonny Pierson (15) threatened to launch his own onslaught hitting 3 x 4’s in his knock, but when Nadeem drove loosely to extra cover off Chapman, the run chase stalled. Pierson fell shortly after, bowled, playing back to a length ball. There was still time for the visitors to regroup but when Matthew Hood turned his back on a suicidal run called by older brother Nick, there was little left in the innings other than skipper Hayden Bowman to play out nicely for the draw. The visitors finishing their innings hanging on at 200/9. Steve Chapman finishing his overs with 5/48.

2XI Match Report v Guisborough (Away)

Our depleted 2XI took the pleasant drive to Fountains Gath to play Guisborough 2XI. Similarly to the 1XI, there were changes within the side as some 14 players were unavailable for various reasons. After winning the toss and electing to field, Bishop quickly reduced Guisborough to 36/3. Matt Fishburn carried his bat for 75 not out, Siddhartha Singh 34 and the experienced Colin Murray smashed 76 from just 37 balls. Thomas Stones was the pick of the Bishops bowlers picking up 2/32 from his 8 overs. The home side completing their 40 overs compiling 211/4 along the way.

In reply Bishops run chase started nicely after the early hiccup of losing skipper Jacob Dinger (6). Youngsters David Robinson (25) and Thomas Stones (29) added 52 before the partnership was broken. There was still time for another partnership of 62 between Kesh Sarveswaran (34no) and James Holliday (19) but the visitors were never really in the run contest for much of their innings finishing their 40 overs with 140/5
