1XI Match Report v Wolviston CC

More success for the 1XI team at the weekend with comprehensive 10 wicket victory away at Wolviston CC. Despite the pre-game rain and indeed the heavy rain leading into the weekend, a full game was manged.

Bishop, upon winning the toss elected to field first. The pitch and indeed the ground was as well prepared as anyone could have hoped for despite the poor weather leading into the weekend, however there was still enough moisture in the pitch to encourage skipper Nathan Rimmington to bowl first.

Left handers Andy Fish (30) and Oliver Jones (18) got the Wolviston innings off to a slow but steady start adding 41 for the opening partnership, before Jones departed as he was smartly caught by Ian Grainger off the bowling of Aussie seamer Ben Roosenboom (5/30) who once again worked hard for the side, bowling his 15 overs in 2 impressive spells. West Indian overseas amateur Tonius Simon (55no) was the mainstay of the home sides innings defending watchfully and checked drove 3 superb 6’s over long off. Ian Grainger made the most of his 10 overs returning 3/22 for the Kingsway men, bowling straight and into the wicket. Nathan Rimmington (1/59) bowled well once again, without much luck and Jack Rutherford bowled 10 tidy overs of his off spin without reward. Tonius Simon continued to control the tempo of the innings and shared two tidy partnerships of 44 firstly with Pavan Lankala (11) and then 31 with Neyaz Karim (13) to add valuable tail end runs. The home side would have been content with their first innings total of 162/9 from their 50 overs, but for much of the last 10 overs there were opportunities to press for 200 had Simon showed more intent.

Bishop in reply were devastating, needing only 36.2 overs to chase down the required runs. After a watchful start, in form openers Jack Rutherford (95no) and Scott Oldfield (62no) set about the home bowlers finding the boundary some 21 times between them, including 4x 6’s from the blade of Rutherford. Wolviston used six bowlers in their defence of their 162/9 but all to no avail. The visitors cruised home by 10 wickets to maintain their position at the top of the NYSD Div 1 with ten league games remaining.
