Devastating Roosenboom Skittles Seaton

BACC 1XI continued their stellar season on Saturday, defeating Seaton Carew CC at Kingsway by 9wkts. On another breezy day in Bishop Aucklan, skipper Nathan Rimmington elected to field first, in a fixture which marked the halfway point of the 2022 season.

The Bishop’s seamers started positively making the opposition batsmen play and a breakthrough was quick to arrive as Aussie speedster Ben Roosenboom bowled Richard Harrison in his second over. The affable young Victorian really has been a breath of fresh air this summer throughout the club and one sensed that Saturday was going to be a tremendous day for him and so it proved to be. Wickets fell steadily through the Seaton innings and Roosenboom proved to be more than a thorn for the visiting batsmen. In his 11.4 overs Ben returned the magnificent figures of 5/15 including 4 maiden overs as his fast, full, and straight bowling provided challenging times for the opposition. The experienced Martin Skirving provided the only real resistance for the visitors as he made a well compiled 41 from 106 balls faced including 5 x 4’s, before he was bowled from the off spin of Craig George (2/31). Ian Grainger (2/36) from his 9 overs was economical, Nathan Rimmington (1/29) and socialite Dan Legge returning to the 1XI, bowled 4 miserly overs to complete a very efficient bowling effort. Seaton ending their innings on 123 and one couldn’t help feeling they really missed a couple of their more experienced players.

The BACC reply was once again a very positive one. The returning Jack Rutherford replacing the injured Steve Chapman at the top of the order with run machine Scott Oldfield. Seaton Carew started brightly. David Storey and Harry Cook took the new ball, and it wasn’t long before Storey bowled Rutherford for 6. With opening bowler Stuart Lobb missing from their attack, a partnership of 117 quickly unfolded between Oldfield (57no) and Craig George (50no). the change bowlers for the visitors unable to have much impact of the game once the newness went from the ball. Bishops passing their target of 123 at the end of the 18th over.
