Another excellent winning performance for the BACC 1XI yesterday see the team stay top of the NYSD Div 1 after the first six games. Having won the toss at Sedgefield’s immaculate Station Road Ground, Nathan Rimmington’s boys took to the field first, with both teams missing players due to the League 1 Play Off involving Sunderland FC at Wembley.

Sedgefield were very quickly in trouble at 2/2. Matthew Porter defended a spiteful length ball to gully, before Connor Whitelock was adjudged LBW first ball, seeing Bishop speedster Ben Roosenboom on a hat trick early in the innings. As has happened thus far, the new ball pair for Bishops bowled with speed and accuracy on a dry pitch which didn’t really help the seam bowlers. Roosenboom (3/30) and Nathan Rimmmington (0/35) bowled 12 overs apiece mostly up front in the innings and only opener Luke Henderson got to grips with the Bishop Attack. Henderson played superbly throughout his innings making 46 from 91 balls including 9 x 4’s. His defence was tight and when the opportunity allowed, he drove elegantly through the offside. The introduction of spinner Steve Chapman had a heavy influence on the Sedgefield innings. When Henderson was brilliantly stumped by Scott Oldfield the home team innings stuttered to 93 all out as Chapman finished with 6 wickets for 4 runs from 8.3 overs.

As the visitors set about their target Jack Rutherford and Steve Chapman added 47 for the first wicket. Rutherford continued his fluent start to the season finishing with 39 not out in a knock that included 7 x 4’s adding the required 47 runs in a partnership with promoted Scott Oldfield, who capped an excellent all-round game by adding 20 not out to his fist innings good work behind the stumps.

Next Saturday brings the visit of second placed Darlington RA to Kingsway, which looks like being a game not to be missed.
