50 Point Weekend for Bishops

1XI Match Report v Marton 2XI (Away)

 

Bishop continued their quest towards the Premier Division of NYSD cricket with a convincing win 8 wicket victory at the beautiful Parkway Ground, home of Marton CC 2XI.

The game started with a positive decision to bat from Marton skipper Matt Connolly at the coin toss and indeed at 41/1 in the 11th over his decision looked like it was going to plan. There were boundaries aplenty as Bishop attacked with the new ball, three slips left meant scoring opportunities and the game flowed quickly as the new ball travelled at speed over the lightning-fast outfield. Opener Scott MIddlemiss top scored for the home side making 33 from 71 balls including 7 x 4’s. As the new ball softened the dry pitch proved difficult to score on and when Middlemiss was caught off the spin bowling of Steve Chapman, wickets started to fall regularly throughout the remainder of the innings. Skipper Nathan Rimmington was again terrific with his fast medium bowling taking 3/35 form his 11.2 overs and Steve Chapman 4/14 off 15 overs as the home side stuttered to 103 all out.

In pursuit of the total and 25 points, Jack Rutherford fell early, bowled by a ball which didn’t bounce at all. Steve Chapman 41 not out and in form Craig George 44, added 87 as the visitors cruised towards their total but not before Marton youngsters gave a terrific showing of their straight bowling ability and excellent fielding. Matthew Cowling added a sparkling 12 not out from just 5 balls to see 25 points come home with Kingsway men.

2XI Match Report v Maltby (Home)

 

It was another terrific day for the 2XI defeating Maltby by 70 runs to keep the team in the hunt for promotion.

After winning the toss, skipper Paul Barrow was quick to bat first as the team looked to build on their victory over Newton Aycliffe just 48 hours earlier. In form David Robinson made 56 and young gun Thomas Stones 20 as the home side posted 145 in their first innings.

In reply Maltby struggled to get a foot hold in the chase losing wickets at regular intervals with only two of the visiting batsmen making double figures. Thomas Stones followed up his first innings excellent work with 2/12 from 8.2 overs before off spinner James Holliday bowled 10 fantastic overs snagging 4/18 in a spell which included 4 maidens. Spin bowling during the visitor’s innings proved extremely difficult to deal with. Left arm spinner Jacob Dinger bowled in tandem with Holliday and similarly his 10 overs included 6 maidens as he ended with fantastic figures of 3/9. The visitors were eventually bowled out for 75 in the 37th over.
