1XI Promoted As Champions to NYSD Premier Division

There were scenes of great jubilation and celebration at Hornby Park, home of Seaton Carew CC on Saturday as a comprehensive 9 wicket victory for BACC 1XI saw the team return to the Premier Division of the NYSD Cricket League as champions. The forecasted heavy rain during Saturday afternoon only added to the drama as all eyes away from Seaton were focused on Darlington RA’s away fixture at Marton as the second placed Railway men were in striking distance of the Premiership should the Kingsway Men had slipped up in their pursuit of a final league game victory.

Bishop skipper and opening bowler Nathan Rimmington, led his men into the field having won the toss, knowing a 20-point victory would be enough to secure the Division 1 title for 2022 and bowling along with his opening partner, Aussie speedster Ben Roosenboom, the new ball pair set about taking the needed 10 wickets of the Seaton innings. Rimmington (4/37), Roosenboom (3/32) were ably supported by Chapman (2/10) & Grainger (1/3) as the home side were bowled out for 84 in 31.4 overs. For the home side, opener Danny Thomas (17) played nicely early and a middle order partnership of 30 between Owen Nugent (18) & Daniel Wilson (21) were the only highlights in the Seaton Carew innings on a terrific pitch and lightning-fast outfield.

Jack Rutherford (59no) added a second wicket partnership of 60 with Scott Oldfield (17no) to see Bishops home at the end of the 15th Over and indeed secure promotion back to the Premier Division as Champions before the rain had chance to spoil the afternoon.

Durham CCC legend Geoff Cook presented Nathan Rimmington with the Division 1 Cup after the game and the celebrations began amongst the many visiting supporters and family members of the team.
